It took about 19 years, but my mom finally got her dream master bath. If you didn’t know already, my mom is an interior designer as well. She’s who I get my creative brain + spunky personality from (although she trumps me on that 10 fold). I like to say, “I got it from my mama.” When she decided to to a master bath remodel and asked for my help, I was psyched. Their bathroom is so unique and has TONSSSS of space to work with.
I’ll never forget going to this home for the first time in 1999. My dad bought the home without my mom seeing (v unlike him and risky on his part) while we lived in Alabama. The master bath was essentially a jungle. No joke. There was a dark green jungle print wallpaper – complete with monkeys – covering the entire bathroom … even in the water closet. I think my mom nearly passed out when she first saw it. How does one put on makeup in a jungle? She made some changes, painted it a light and bright gray (Balboa Mist), added crown molding, and covered the wallpaper to make it a bit more her style. Finally, during quarantine they decided to renovate. It is literally the last space in their home that they haven’t remodeled. This is where I get it from. Check out my McDonald Binks Estates Master Bath Remodel.
Mom and dads house is absolutely stunning. Momma is so talented. They have truly made it their own – while being a “show home.” It is always decorated to the nines. The color scheme in the house is light gray, chrome, and color pop accents – a calm, bright, and elevated modern space. We wanted the master bath design to play off of the rest of the home.
My mom knew she wanted to incorporate brass fixtures and assets to really boost the design. It also adds a bit of fun and flirty – so her. We had the vanities custom made to fit the space perfectly. The pull out cabinetry and storage details are amazing. We chose flat panel cabinets to give a modern feel to the bathroom and compliment the marble. The gray is a custom color similar to agreeable gray (Sherwin Williams). My dad fell in love with the stone wall accent and we designed the rest of the space around that – using massive marble tiles, hexagon accents, and brass details. The floor tiles are 48×48 and are truly spectacular. My whole body can almost fit on one tile. I love that the large tiles make the space look even larger and has even less grout lines – WIN. Changing the accent wall to make it straight (previous was angled) and putting the tub against the wall made all the difference. So much floor space! I can’t forget to mention of of my favorite aspects of the bathroom – the double shower heads. The details are unmatched.
I am in awe of the finished product. They deserve this bathroom more than anything. It’s bright, white, modern, and stunning. It’s a true show stopper. I know one thing for sure, I wouldn’t mind getting ready here every day!
I adore how the bathroom looks with the golden lighting from the chandelier.
