Have you ever heard the saying “a little spray paint goes a long way”? Well, maybe I just made that up… but it’s so true. During quarantine (like everyone) I started a plethora of house projects. My outdoor fan update may be one of my favorites. I decided to do this while hubs was at the store so I didn’t hear any complaining about me wanting to redo the entire house LOL. I managed to turn off the appropriate breaker, detach and disassemble the fans by myself. Pretty proud of that. Maybe not the smartest thing to be hanging on a ladder with a ceiling fan, but I’m alive and well to tell the story – and share the outdoor fan update!
This was a pretty easy project all in all. Once I disconnected the wires and took the fans down, it was smooth sailing from there. I started by cleaning the fans very well to get rid of any dirt and dust. I took the glass globe for the light off of the fans and it was go time! The fan was kept together instead of taking off all the blades and spraying individually. It couldn’t get much easier! I used matte black spray paint. It took about a can of spray paint for each fan. I sprayed each side thoroughly, let dry, and sprayed again. Once dry, I flipped it over and repeated for the back side.
OUTDOOR FAN UPDATE PRO TIP: Take photos of how the wiring is connected PRIOR to disconnecting. This will help prevent any problems when you go to re-wire and attach the newly painted fan.
Little updates like this go a LONG way! I love how the matte black complements our new hurricane doors + windows and matches our fixtures. What is a home project you completed over quarantine?
